A peek into my life… a life of a software engineer…

oseme odigieWelcome to my blog. My name is Odigie Oseme and I am a senior software engineer. I have over ten (10) years of experience in a variety of front-end and back-end technologies.

I make The Weekly Pen and I love to learn new things (game theory, graphs, parsers and compilers, NLP, computer vision, etc.). Before I made PenMeNow (a social network) while still an undergraduate. I currently work at CoralPay Technologies. I also do some freelancing work; I made a very cool trivia game for a client: Green-Passport-Quiz – and did some software engineering consulting for CypherCrescent (I previously worked as their DSL focal point). This is where I will be taking you through my life’s journey as a software engineer.

I like to contribute to open source. Some interesting links about me:

Understanding Languages 1

Hey guys and ladies,

First of all, Happy New Year everyone 🙂 !!!

How’s it going?

Welcome again to another day in the life of a software engineer.

Today I want to talk about languages. So I have been very interested in languages for quite a large part of my life – I guess everyone generally is interested in languages. I remember when I was little and my dad will gather I and my siblings in the sitting room and teach us elementary German, yeah he was an awesome dad like that 🙂 . We’d all be paying hard attention and tying to grasp the concepts and meanings in the language. He started by teaching us the common words/verbs and reading simple sentences to us so we could…

Effective Leadership part 2

Hey guys and ladies,

Welcome to part 2 of the “Effective Leadership” post, a typical day in the life of a software engineer 🙂 .

So in part 1 of the series I talked about leadership and gave the 3 stages/levels of competency development in software engineering. Well in this part, I will give a detailed analogy/example of how these stages/levels plays out in a typical scenario.

I like to give the analogy of maybe an office boardroom…

Effective Leadership part 1

Hey guys and ladies,

Welcome to another wonderful time again in the life of a software engineer.

So last month, somebody drew my attention on Twitter to a tweet from a former colleague I worked with, saying how he missed me and missed the way I work.

I will be back…. and I am back

Hello guys and ladies,

Hmmm, what can I say… I have been AWOL for ages now (been very busy with a lot of stuff – hopefully not mid-life crisis, lolz) but the most important thing is that I am back!!!

I'M Back Baby :-)

For what’s worth I have greatly improved my software engineering craft and become a better engineer/person in the process. I feel strongly that I at least owe the community to share my new experiences which hopefully…

Okay Another Day In My Life

Hello guys,

Welcome to another episode of my life. Okay so a lot has changed since the last time I wrote here – it has been a really long time… I know 🙂 . Let’s see… yeah, I relocated to Lagos to pursue some stuff/interests that greatly matter to me (I couldn’t find such in Port Harcourt), I also got another position as a software engineer at Terragon. What can I say, life in Lagos has been a rollercoaster ride – story of my life – and it has also been really fun and very eventful all the way. I tend to be busier these days and I have had the opportunities…

Becoming a DSL focal point

dsl_subject_matter_expert

Hi, I had previously told you guys that I worked with CypherCrescent as the Domain Specific Language (DSL) focal point for their software development team. Well I didn’t start off being the DSL focal point from day one; I started as a developer working with the DSL team… No, Not really, I started as a full stack developer with the web development team (I later became the HOD of that team).

I started my programming experience with Java (not the coffee but the language **smiles**) specifically with J2SE. I then went ahead to learn…

Coming Back From A Blackout

coming_back

Hi guys,

I went into radio silence again 🙁 , sorry about that. I actually moved this blog to another server and had to point my domain (osemeodigie.com) to the new machine. I didn’t really find the time to do that up until last month. I know I might have…

I left my Job

From the Wolf Of Wall Street Movie

From the Wolf Of Wall Street Movie

Hi good folks, welcome to another episode of my life. I guess by now you already know the “thing” I said I was gonna discuss in my next post (this one), but for formalities sake (and for those who haven’t yet caught it from the title of this blog post)… I resigned from my job as a DSL focal point for the software development team at Cyphercrescent.

It was a hard decision for me, I mean I joined them straight out of college and have been with this guys for more than two years of my life. I know that’s quite a while…
